In Egypt, water quality standards have been derived from World Health Organization guidelines concerning bacteriological and toxicological parameters; for the other parameters, several sources have been used especially the Egyptian code 48. Beheira Water and Drainage Company has developed quite an extensive network for water quality monitoring, comprised of 2 central laboratories conducting all sorts of analytical determinations ranging from biological, chemical and bacteriological examinations, to determine and trace metals, pesticides, and toxicity tests.

The work of centeral laboratory is carried out through 27 sub laboratories for drinking water and 17, laboratories for wastewater beside 2 central laboratories for water and wastewater samples analysis. In the centeral laboratory for drinking water a new third floor concerning bacteriological analysis has been constructed to separate the bacteriological analysis from the chemical analysis.

The third floor includes bacteriological analysis, bilogical analysis and quality control management. Organic and non-organic analyses are also included in the third floor. BWADC central laboratory for Water is furnished and supplied with benches appropriate to safely run water analyses and tests. Samples room has been developed to include the glassware washing room separated from preparation room.

Usage: measures the total organic substance & non-organic carbonic substances.

Usage: Measures chlorine reactions results .

Inductively coupled plasma (ICP)

Usage: Measures all heavy metals + Al.
