Using Trident technique to increase Idfina Production Capacity: This technique aims to:

  • Multiply clarifiers’ production capacity without any civil constructions.
  • Maintain Clarifiers efficiency
  • Make full use of clarifies’ capacity

Using Trident technique to increase Damanhur 2 Production Capacity:

  • The production capacity has been increased from 50000 M3\d to 86000 M3\d to satisfy the increased demand in Damanhur.
  • Multiply clarifiers’ production capacity without any civil constructions.
  • Maintain clarifiers’ efficiency
  • Make full use of clarifies’ capacity

Increasing Kafr El Dawar 1 Production capacity using Lamella Sheets:

  • In order to confront the excessive demand of Kafr El Dawar Citizen’s, BWADC engineers have exerted all their efforts to increase the production capacity using lamella sheets.
  • Through using Lamella Sheets, Kafr El dawar 1 Production capacity has been improved to become, 50000 m3\d. The cost never exceeds one million Egyptian Pounds.

Advantages of using Lamella Sheets:

  • Never needs extra space.
  • The development was limited only to sedimentation tanks and little modifications to the pipes diameters Which connect the flash mixer Law costs.
  • The development works take short times.
  • Increase the efficiency of sedimentation process.
  • Improve the quality and quantity of water.

Abou Hommous Rehabilitation:

After the passage of 50 years on the construction of the plant, and the deterioration of the civil constructions, mechanical and electrical works, it was necessary to rehabilitate these works. In additions, measuring and monitoring equipment have been supplied and installed to increase the production capacity of the plant from 65000 m3\day to 100000 m3\d.

Damanhour 1 rehabilitation and development

After the passage of 50 years on the construction of the plant, and the deterioration of the civil constructions, mechanical and electrical works, it was necessary to rehabilitate these works. In additions, measuring and monitoring equipment have been supplied and installed to increase the production capacity of the plant from 35000 m3\day to 50000 m3\d.

Artesian wells production capacity have been increased from 24 million M3\year to 38 million M3\year (57% increment)

BURMAN

Beheira Water & Sanitary Drainage Company. (BWADC) in co-operation with Amsterdam Water Supply (AWS) and Netherlands Management Co-operation Program is considered to be one of the pioneering companies in Egypt & Arab World in the field of applying a new technology to remove Iron and Manganese from underground water with high quality and little costs.. Currently, BWADC experience in the field of removing iron & manganese from underground water is transferred to El Gharbia and El Monofia Water Companies.

About Burman:

Burman is a simple system with little costs to decrease the high level of Iron & manganese in ground water wells. The costs of this system never exceed 10% of the traditional ways of removing iron and manganese. It has been to name this method with BURMAN the abbreviation of (Beheira Underground Removal of Manganese) •

Problems Related to Iron & Manganese Existence in Drinking Water:

  • Water distribution networks clogging.
  • Additional sedimentations resulted from water chlorination.
  • Stains in clothes during its wash.
  • Change in water taste.
  • Sometimes water is colored with organic substances.

Burman Phases:

Abstraction (Well No. 1) – Aeration – Infiltration. (Well No.2) – Abstraction. (Well No.2)

Burman Advantages:

  • Reduce Iron & Manganese high concentration in water.
  • There is no need to add chemical substances.
  • It is possible to treat two wells by one aerator.
  • It is easy to re-operate the well being stopped unlike the traditional methods.
  • No direct sludge or sediments
  • Construction costs are Low.
  • There is no need to large areas for construction.
  • It is easy to re-operate the well after short stop periods.

Burman Disadvantages:

  • Interrupted Production.
  • Needs large number of wells.
  • Needs direct supervision and control..
  • Wells clogging.

Co-operation with International and Local Directions:

• Local co-operation represented in (RIGWA). • International co-operation represented in Netherlands Management Co-operation Program (NMCP) and Amsterdam Water Supply (AWS).

Co-operation Results:

• Provide save ground water with high quality.
• Establish a comprehensive database which includes the technical and hydrological data for each well.
• Follow the modern standards in wells design and execution.
• Increase boreholes radius and gravel back size around screens to improve water quality.
• Use centralizers around wells casing and screens to guarantee its centralization and proper distribution of the gravel pack around the screen.
• Protect wells heads through making a concrete block around the head.
• Put 1 inch screen pipes beside the screen and casing to be used as observation wells to determine clogging place.
• There is no need for sand trap to avoid bacteria growth and well water pollution.
• Use clay or betonies (backfilling) instead of grouting to isolate the well from the surrounding area.

Self Executed Projects (BWADC employees)

  • Compact units have been rehabilitated. Their production capacity has been increased to add 35.000 m3/day to the total water production.
  • Artesian Wells Production capacity have been increased from 24 million m3/year to 38 m3/year (75% annual increment)
  • Water Total production before the execution of the urgent plan projects – 2007. (8 main plants – 37 compact unit – 73 artesian sites / operation)
  • The production capacity of drinking water in Beheira governorate “Before the implementation of Master Plan” (8 main plants – 37 small plants – 73 artesian wells)
    – Total water production: 763.000 m3/day (before or after???) – Person’s share: 150 l/day.
  • The added value after the execution of the urgent plan projects (16 Main Plants + 14 artesian wells) – The total increment: 600.000 m3/day
  • Water total production by 2010: (24 main plants – 21 compact unit – 46 artesian site / operation) – Total production: 1.3 million m3/day. – Person’s share: 250 l/day.
